Everybody loves a circus.  Especially if it’s on the shores of beachland in Santa Cruz, California.  The Polynesian circus has set up shop on the historic beach boardwalk, and I went to go see the free 30 minute show yesterday.  There was plenty of dancing girls, gymnasts, fire spinners, shell blowers, the limbo man, and real honest to God Samoans in the show.  It’s a fun event to go to if you’re around Santa Cruz through August.

Raging Waters, San Jose, CA, Opens Season May 22, 2011

Tully Road off Capitol Expressway
2333 South White Road, San Jose, CA 95148

  • +1 909 802 2200, +1 408 238 9900
  • Raging Waters, San Jose: Opens for the season Sunday, May 22. Inside Lake Cunningham Regional Park. The city of San Jose charges a parking fee of $6 per car. Season pass special: $42.99 when you buy 2 or more passes (regularly $52.99). Single admission is $33.99. Juniors and seniors $22.99

My favorite ride in the whole park is the Dragon’s Den – you and your partner ride down on a double tube and after a downhill slide, you end up in a big bowl, where you go round and round, until it shoots you out the bottom. The kids love Shotgun Falls, the long green slide with the big drop at the bottom. For the kids needing a little less excitement, the Pirate’s Cove is a great place to splash and climb.

Safety is always a major concern at a water park, and I must say, the life guards and staff at the park did an admirable job of keeping things safe and under control. This did lead to long lines, but I felt a lot more comfortable letting my kids go off and enjoy the park without constant supervision. And all kids under 48″ are required to wear life jackets in the wave pool
